In this morbid listing, I take into account all attacked persons, whether directly (killed, bitten, scratched…) or indirectly (only present in an attacked group) or attacked several times (it happened)
So, for 247 attacks :
119 deads- 53 wounds - 76 safes
During three years, the “efficacy of the Beast was high. 50 % of the attacks resulted in death,
On 100 attacked people, 46,2%of the attacks resulted in death,22,3% in wounds,31,5%were safe.
If one excludes the people that were rescued rapidly, the number of unharmed victims is close to zero and the rate of mortal attacks is frightening: more than 80 % !
The worst period started in December 1764 and ended in June 1765.
The parishes of Paulhac, Lorcières, Grèzes, Auvers, Saint Privat du Fau, La Besseyres Sainte Mary, Servières, Julianges, Venteuges were the most touched by the attacks of the Beast. All those parishes are located in the region of Trois Monts.
One should bear in mind that the 247 attacks are those reported in the parish registers and in minutes or via narratives passed by trustful people and collected by the abbot Pourcher.
But it is also sure that many other attacks were never mentioned either by some people’s will or because it was not possible to transcribe them.
