In 1763 Gévaudan was in the grip of a terrible nightmare. A mysterious beast was killing women, children and old people, ripping out their throats.

One person who claimed to have seen the beast says it must have been an ape or a werewolf.

Another says it had a mouth like a lion's.

Who could you believe?

Then the king himself dispatched his greatest wolf-hunter and his soldiers to destroy the monster.
