The Beast of Gévaudan is an animal that was the source of a series of attacks against humans occurring between June 30, 1764 and June 19, 1767. These attacks, most of them fatal, caused between 88 and 124 deaths according to sources and occurred mainly in the north of the old country formerly known as Gévaudan.
The “Beast of Gévaudan” grew quickly from a small news item to the point where royal troops were mobilized against and all sorts of rumors about it were born.
