From 1764 to 1767, a savage, unidentified beast sowed terror in the Gévaudan, killing or wounding over two hundred people including many children.
Despite a large mobilization by the authorities, and despite the decision of King Louis XV to send his best wolf hunters, the beast raged for three years across this beautiful part of France, which was terrorized by the ravages of the monster. People thought it was killed several times, only to see it reborn immediately afterwards, multiplying the terror it inflicted! Jean-Claude Bourret studied this extraordinary page of French history for twenty years.
He has put together all the official documents of the period and seems to have pierced the mystery of this beast which has spawned so many theories… was it a trained hyena? A deviant, perverted noble disguised in wolf pelts? A dog of war, dressed in armor? A monster from another world?
So many theories have been put forth! But the truth seems indisputable after the rigorous examination of the journalist, whose great-great grandparents, farmers in the region, saw the beast themselves… This is what you’ll discover in the two volumes of « The Secret of the Beast of Gévaudan », illustrated by Julien Grycan. An amazing true story…exciting!
